One killed, one injured when Amtrak hits car
One man died and another was critically injured when the car they were in collided with an Amtrak train Thursday afternoon.

The two men were crossing Ventura railroad tracks in an agricultural area between Olivas Park Drive and Sperry Avenue about 2:50 p.m. when their car was hit by a southbound train.

Police suspect alcohol contributed to a solo car crash in Oxnard that seriously injured one man last night.

Miguel Angel Saldana Mendez, 39, of Oxnard was driving eastbound at on Oxnard Boulevard at high speed about 9:24 p.m. Wednesday when he veered to the right and struck a signal pole on the southwest corner of Oxnard and Rose Avenue, Oxnard police said in a prepared statement early this morning.
